Oze - Japan 2009

Oze National Park (尾瀬国立公園, Oze kokuritsukōen?), is an area consisting of open greenland in Fukushima, Tochigi, Gunma and Niigata Prefectures in Japan. The park is 372 km² in area and is the 29th national park in Japan.

Opened on 30 August 2007, the park's area includes the marshes and the mountains in the Oze area, formerly part of the Nikkō National Park, and other nearby areas including the Aizu-Komagatake and Tashiroyama mountains.

The park was the first new national park to open in 20 years, since the designation of Hokkaidō’s Kushiro wetlands as a national park in 1987

Chozo Goya (Moutain Lodge)

The mountain lodge is a simple but friendly lodge located next to the beautiful Oze‐numa lake in the middle of the Oze wetlands area. As supplies have to be brought in by helicopter, sheets are not provided with the bedding.

You may like to bring pajamas or a thin cotton sleeping bag liner. Please note that towels and toothbrushes are also not supplied. The lodge in the Oze Marshland has a hot bath separate male and female), but soap and toothpaste is not allowed due to the fragile local environment.

Jizaikan Ryokan (Tochio‐mata Onsen)
This charming hot spring ryokan has a history going back over 400 years. The ryokan is situated by a small river and has numerous hot springs, some of them ‘private’ baths that can be reserved without extra charge.
